Kuruma Marthudunera Aboriginal Corporation

Using Microsoft technology tools and processes to establish a solid foundation towards community wellbeing and cultural identity now and for future generations

Illuminance Solutions

The Robe River Kuruma (RRK) people have traditional rights to an area of approximately 15,800km2in Western Australia’s Pilbara region. Robe River has long been considered the lifeblood of the RRK people is central to their identity and is at one with the identity of the river.

Kuruma Marthudunera Aboriginal Corporation (KMAC), established in 2013, is the registered native title body corporate for the RRK People. KMAC is also the provider of community projects, programs and services developed and delivered for the benefit of the RRK people. They provide cultural heritage services in order to preserve, protect and promote Robe River Kuruma Country on behalf of the Robe River Kuruma people and provide employment opportunities such as:

  • Conducting surveys to help protect Country and sites;
  • Identifying, mapping and protecting sacred sites;
  • Delivering cultural awareness training;
  • Undertaking projects to capture, transfer and promote traditional knowledge and wisdom;
  • Implementing and monitoring activities associated with agreement to ensure compliance.

In order to comply with the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006, KMAC is required to exhibit strong governance, be fair and transparent, and report to the Office of the Registrar of Indigenous Corporations (ORIC).

When the collaboration between KMAC and Illuminance Solutions began, the corporation was reliant on a third party for fund administration and application management. There were challenges and restrictions around the process, including:

  • Restricted access to member and fund information
  • Higher administration cost
  • Dependency on a third-party provider for member services
  • Duplication of data entry and tasks

KMAC was able to adopt Illuminance Solutions’ holistic system, ATMS (Aboriginal Trust Management System), to rapidly address those challenges. The systems core is built on Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement and the Common Data Model, drawing on support from other Microsoft Cloud Platform components such as the Office 365 suite, SharePoint and Microsoft Azure.

Since implementation, KMAC has been able to achieve their goal of becoming independent and helping the RRK People in a more efficient manner.

Testimonial

“Among others, the fundamental core service that KMAC provide the Robe River Kuruma people is to utilise trust funds to deliver programs for their betterment. Aligned under the same goal, KMAC and Illuminance Solutions formed a partnership to further refine the processes already in place around member services with ATMS as the enabler.

KMAC realises the impact of streamlining the processes through ATMS will benefit the RRK people. We look forward to continuing the partnership with Illuminance to further improve our system with the goal of serving the RRK people at the forefront.”
