The Design, Communication & Marketing Specialist plays a pivotal role in the marketing and communications team. This multifaceted role combines graphic design and UX/UI expertise, effective communication skills, and marketing acumen to support the development and execution of marketing strategies. This position is responsible for creating visually appealing and compelling marketing materials, ensuring consistent brand messaging across internal and external channels, and contributing to successful marketing campaigns and company positioning in the market.
This position requires a dynamic individual who can blend creative design, effective communication, and marketing strategy to contribute to the success of the organisation’s marketing initiatives. The Design, Communication & Marketing Specialist is a key player in maintaining a consistent brand image and driving engagement with the target audience through compelling design and content.
Responsibilities will include
- Create eye-catching and on-brand visual assets for various marketing channels, including print and digital materials such as brochures, flyers, social media graphics, email templates, and website graphics
- Collaborate with the marketing team to design and update marketing collateral
- Maintain a strong understanding of design trends and incorporate them into design work
- Assist the development team in UX projects, guiding them through the stages of sketching, creating user flows, wireframing, prototyping, conducting user testing, and finally, executing UI design
- Effectively prioritise and oversee multiple projects with diverse design requirements, ensuring each one is completed with meticulous attention to detail and on schedule
- Sustain the company’s creative direction, crafting and designing diverse materials and content in adherence to established brand guidelines, thereby upholding branding consistency across the organisation
- Write and edit marketing copy for various mediums, including print material, web, blog posts, press releases, social media posts, and email campaigns
- Conduct research and compose award nominations
- Prepare grant proposals and funding requests for a wide range of projects and initiatives, encompassing final remarks and acquittal reports
- Compose ministerial correspondences, official communications, and briefings
- Ensure all content aligns with the brand’s tone and messaging guidelines
- Collaborate with illuminance’s subject matter experts, project managers and product owners to create technically accurate and engaging content, including writing case studies
- Provide copywriting, editing, and proofreading assistance to various teams. Write, review and proofread creative content and company documents, including presentation decks and proposals
Marketing Strategy and Brand Management
- Collaborate with our CEO to develop a variety of content marketing materials, including research, advertising, newsletters, letters, award nominations and media publications
- Contribute to the development of marketing strategies and campaigns
- Assist in market research and analysis to identify trends, customer preferences, and competitive landscape
- Maintain brand consistency across all marketing materials and communication channels
- Ensure that all marketing materials adhere to brand guidelines
- Monitor and update brand assets and marketing materials as needed
Social Media Management
- Manage and grow the organisation’s social media presence
- Devise and brainstorm social media marketing campaigns and strategies, encompassing content conception, copywriting, and scheduling of execution
- Strategise, generate, disseminate, and timetable compelling written and visual content through e-newsletters, web page materials, blogs, and social media posts
- Monitor social media channels for comments and engagement opportunities to initiate growth and create leads
- Utilising various tracking and analytics tools for improved performance
Culture Building and Collaboration
- Foster culture that aligns with our core values

- Demonstrate creativity and innovation and encourage others
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including sales, product development, and office admin, to ensure marketing efforts align with organisational goals
- Communicate marketing initiatives and updates to internal and external stakeholders
- Coordinate and organise company events, such as internal training or team building activities, and the West Tech Assemblage
- Photograph and document company events, gatherings, team activities, and perform image editing as needed
- Provide copywriting, editing, and proofreading assistance to various teams. Review and proofread creative content and company documents, including presentation decks and proposals
- Organise and oversee the storage and distribution of files, presentation materials, and other resources to assist the team

Experience, Knowledge and Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- Have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in marketing, communications, graphic arts, design, or related field, and/or 3-5 years of experience in marketing and/or graphic design
- Proven experience in graphic design, preferably in a marketing or agency setting
- Demonstrate initiative, self-motivation, multitasking proficiency, and a consistent record of meeting deadlines
- Strong writing and editing skills with the ability to create compelling content
- Illustrate exceptional attention to detail and proficiency in written, verbal, and graphical communication
- Be a creative thinker with the confidence to present ideas and strategies to your Supervisor
- Hold a wealth of social media expertise and demonstrate mastery in managing various social media platforms. Skilfully leverage these platforms to effectively engage with specific target groups and audiences
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
- Know how to use and benefit from Google Analytics, Google Ads, Meta for Business, and LinkedIn Analytics
- Proficient capabilities using Adobe Creative Suite (including Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, and Premiere Pro) and Microsoft Office 365 (including Power Point, Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook, and SharePoint)
- WordPress and Squarespace
